Resolution Urging Loudoun County Mayors to Decline to Join MAIG

January 28, 2013

Whereas, Our Founders wrote the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which says "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"; and

Whereas, Upon assuming office, Loudoun County mayors are required to take the oath of office to support and defend the U.S. Constitution; and

Whereas, There are certain individuals, organizations, and politicians that oppose the fundamental right and Constitutionally protected freedom of law abiding citizens to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes; and

Whereas, One of these organizations is the organization "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" ("MAIG"), founded in 2006 by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino; and

Whereas, Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro announced on December 31, 2012 that he was joining Michael Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns, while at the same time Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd and Hamilton Mayor Greg Wilmoth declined to join MAIG; therefore

Be it resolved, That citizens of Loudoun County should respectfully urge Mayor Lazaro to leave MAIG, and be it further

Resolved, That the Loudoun County Republican Committee urges all mayors in Loudoun County to decline to join Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and be it further

Resolved, That this resolution should be sent to all Loudoun County news outlets by Chairman Mark Sell upon its approval by members of the Loudoun County Republican Committee.
